Which UK parcel delivery sites offer the best user experience?

An estimated 60% of UK adults send parcels at Christmas? That’s about 32 million people, busy wrapping, booking, and sending gifts to friends and family.

With so much pressure on delivery companies, their websites become crucial for customers who need a smooth, stress-free way to book their parcels. At Propel Tech, we decided to find out which delivery companies are nailing it in terms of online usability—and which ones could use some improvement.

We put the UK’s main delivery companies to the test, scoring them on:

  • Clicks to set up a delivery
  • Ease of use
  • Loading times on desktop and mobile
  • Mobile app availability

Each company received an overall usability score out of 10. Here’s how they stacked up:

Top performers: DHL and DPD (8/10) - With sleek interfaces and fast load times, these websites stood out. It takes just four clicks to get a quote, and their mobile-friendly designs ensure a smooth experience on the go.

Strong contenders: Parcel Force, EVRI, and FedEx (7/10) - While these sites offered solid performance, they required more clicks or had slight navigation issues. For example, FedEx users found it tricky to locate the quote section.

Room for improvement: UPS and Yodel (6/10) - Longer processes (eight clicks on UPS) and slower mobile load times meant these platforms didn’t quite keep pace with the leaders.

Why ongoing testing matters

Even the best delivery companies can’t afford to rest on their laurels. Technology evolves fast, and what’s top-notch today might be outdated tomorrow. Regular testing ensures websites and mobile apps remain efficient, reliable, and user-friendly—especially during critical periods like Christmas.

At Propel Tech, we know that usability testing is key for businesses of all sizes. Whether you’re a market leader or an emerging player, partnering with an independent expert can provide valuable, objective insights into what’s working—and what isn’t.

Testing is more than finding bugs

Our multi-disciplined testing team are pros at getting involved early in projects, ensuring quality isn’t just an afterthought. With expertise spanning mobile apps, APIs, automation, and more, we offer tailored solutions to optimise performance and security.

Tips to maximise your website’s performance

  1. Minimise clicks: The fewer steps it takes to complete a task, the better.
  2. Test loading times: Regularly check speeds on both desktop and mobile.
  3. Prioritise mobile experience: A responsive design and an app are crucial.
  4. Make navigation intuitive: Ensure key features (like quotes) are easy to find.
  5. Conduct ongoing testing: Regular usability and compatibility tests help you stay ahead.
